36 Star Flag 1865 Civil War Era

This is a most unusual and rare relic from the Civil War.
This is a 36 star flag from 1865 that has a rare Confederate butternut blanket sewn to the back to make this a quilt.
The stars must have come from a large garrison flag.
Civil War era blankets are very rare but a Confederate Civil War blanket is even more rare to have.

The person who saved these two items most likely was a Civil War Veteran who saved the flag and the blanket as war keepsakes.

Very Rare Hand Sewn 35 Star Flag

Great 35 Star Civil War Flag with beautiful large hand cut & sewn stars with reverse cut and hemmed.
Dates from 1863 to 1865.

85"x130" Civil War US Naval Flag with sleeve hoist with original hemp roping.

A piece of canvas is sewn to the top left & bottom left corners by the hoist with the following stenciled.
The top says; AMERICAN ENSIGN/8XX12
At the bottom it says; WM. J. POWELL US FLAG DEPOT 153 SOUTH ST NY.

Treadle sewn stripes which are 6" wide.
The stars are almost 6" across.

Made of a wool possibly heavy linen.

Truly a great and beautiful rare flag.

A authentic Civil War era hand dyed, hand made, hand sewn 13 Star American Flag.

Made from natural dyes as the blue has faded.
Made of cotton fabric.
Hand cut and sewn stars
Treadle sewn stripes.

It has it's original staff ties still attached to the hoist

Dates from the 1860's-1870's

A most rare flag to find, one made by Pettibone. They made all sorts of militaria for officers and then after the war for society groups as the GAR.
Beautiful flag with lots of age with fringe.
Also a very unusual size, almost square.

A beautiful 34 Star Flag that dates from 1861 the very beginning of the Civil War to 1863.
This flag has hand cut and sewn stars and stripes.
The original hoist has been replaced by a conservator, the host has sewn eyelets.

A great looking 36 Star Flag from the Civil War.

Made of wool with hand cut stars with very early treadle sewing.
Canvas hoist with two brass grommets and some remains of rope ties.

Still has good strong colors as it has been stored for most of its life since the war.

Several period patches & repairs, overall good condition. Some light fading to blue star field.

The 36 Star dates from 1865 to 1867
Abraham Lincoln & Andrew Johnson were Presidents during this period.
