Rare Silk & Boullion Teddy Roosevelt Banner
A incredible large elaborate silk banner featuring Teddy Roosevelt and the Great White Fleet to commemorate the around the world voyage from Dec. 12, 1907 to Feb. 22, 1909. The fleet traveled 43,000 miles with 14,000 sailors.
Made of silk and thread, silver and gold threads.
Features the image Teddy Roosevelt on silk in the center frame. Crossed cannons, cannon balls, Life Preserver a large anchor and a large eagle at the top made of gold & silver threads.
The top banner says; IN MEMORY OF OUR CRUISE AROUND THE WORLD.
The bottom banner says; E PLURIBUS UNUM
The Great White Fleet cruised around the world for two years. It had two admirals, one for the 1st year Rear Admiral Robley D. Evans and one for the 2nd year Rear Admiral Charles S. Sperry. Their photos are the two images missing from the two empty frames under Teddy.
The banner also has a hand painted watercolor of the Great White Fleet off shore from Japan with Mount Fuji in the background.
Overall the banner is in remarkable condition. It does have a few frayed silks.
It has been conserved by a professional museum conservator and has been archivaly framed with UV protection.
A great historical banner commemorating this event. It is possible that one of the two admirals connected to this event ordered the making of this elaborate commemorative banner.
