Following is some information about the characteristics of an antique flag that can influence its value.

  1. The number of stars it has; the fewer the stars, the higher the worth:
    Post 1900 1900-2007 46 stars to 50 stars
    Post Civil War 1867-1900 37 stars to 45 stars
    Civil War Era 1860-1865 34 stars to 36 stars
    Pre Civil War 1840-1860 27 stars to 33 stars
    Early 1800's 1800-1840 20 stars to 26 stars
    Pre 1800 1776-1800 13 stars to 20 stars
  2. The arrangement of the stars; straight rows, staggered, spinning or in a pattern. Flags with stars in a pattern can be worth 2-4 times what straight rows are worth.
  3. Sewn or printed. Sewn flags can be worth at least two times more than printed. Also hand-sewn or machine-sewn.
  4. Size
  5. Condition
  6. Fabric; cotton, silk, wool, linen, gauze, paper
  7. Provenance (place of origin)
  8. War Flags
  9. Archivally framed and restored

42 Star US Parade Flag

This flag dates to 1890 when five States were added to the Union on July 4th 1890.

Rare size, it is almost square in shape with rare puffy stars.

Benjamin Harrison was President when this flag was used, 116 years ago.
