The 42 star flag was used in 1890. It represents Washington state. There were 5 states added in 1890 so there is no official 42 star flag. These were made in the state to celibrate its becoming a state. Indian war period. Harrison was president.
44 Star Flags were used to one year in 1891 when Wyoming became the 44th state. This period was known as the Indian War period from the end of the civil war to the 1890's. Harrison was president.
45 star Flags were used from 1898 to 1908 when Utah became the 45th state. Flown during the famous Spanish American war and Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders. The following presidents served during this period; Cleveland, McKinley (assassinated) and Teddy Roosevelt.
46 star flags were used only in 1908 when Oklahoma became the 46th state. No wars were being fought during this period. Teddy Roosevelt & Taft were presidents.
48 star flags were used from 1912 to 1959. They were used during WWI, WWII, Korean War. The following presidents served during this period; Taft, Wilson, Harding, Coolidge, Hoover, F. Roosevelt, Truman and Eisenhower.

IT IS REPORTED THAT BETSY ROSS HAS SEWN THE FIRST AMERICAN FLAG WITH 13 STARS AND STRIPES. THERE IS DOUBT TODAY THAT BETSY DID SEW THE FIRST FLAG. IT IS ATRIBUTED TO FRANCIS HOPKINS, A SIGNER OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDANCE WHO SUBMITTED A BILL TO CONGRESS FOR HIS SERVICES TO DESIGN THE FLAG, CONGRESS NEVER PAID HIM.

ADOPTS THE FLAG "RESOLVED THAT THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES BE THIRTEEN STRIPES, ALTERNATE RED AND WHITE, THAT THE UNION BE THIRTEENSTARS WHITE IN A FIELD OF BLUE, REPRESENTING A NEW CONSTELLATION."
